Definitive Guide Review Of Hotels & Paradores

Puerto Rico offers the traveler many options and a variety of options for accommodations, hotels, and lodging. There are over 13,000 hotels in Puerto Rico with over 50% of them in the Metro Area of San Juan. There are many “big resorts” and usually those are the ones screaming for your attention and dollars, however you can also choose guesthouses, beach houses, camping grounds, and other unconventional places to stay if you do your research beforehand (there’s even a Bamboo Treehouse you can camp in!). Renting an apartment or condominium is also an option from various websites.

The country also offers what is known as “Puerto Rican Paradors” – which are small privately held hotels participating with the government that assures a certain level of quality. These paradors usually offer the experience of country inns, which are often old coffee or sugar haciendas and offer the traveler an authentic experience of Puerto Rican rural life.

When thinking about hotels, you have to think of logistics and region and where you want to be in the island. The airport is located in Isla Verde and near the Metro Area of Old San Juan, Condado, and the majority of hotels (this is in the North/Eastern section of the island). In this book “Puerto Rico Adventures Revealed” we review hotels and areas of the country you can visit to explore ALL OF THE ISLAND – which means you can book a hotel in a different region each night if you plan your days accordingly and have a rental car (a must if you really want to get the most out of your traveling experience!)

This website is partnering with Trip Advisor to provide the readers direct links to the genuine reviews of other travelers of their hotel stays on the island as well as direct links for you to book the hotels from within. You’ll also get my personal review of hotels we’ve explored and stayed at and our opinions. We get commission if you book your hotel via Trip Advisor so if you can help us we’d be forever appreciative! So if you’re gonna book a hotel and you’ve made your decision, and you feel our website and travel guide is of value to you, please feel free to tap the Trip Advisor link of the hotel(s) you desire and follow the procedure from there (as opposed to just going on their website directly, or in another “internet session” etc.).

Please see the end of this section for Hotel/Lodging reviews by region and direct links to Trip Advisor. Also see our “Hotels” writings under the “Articles” tab for more information on all the hotels/lodging you’ll need to get started for your planning. More detailed information is included in the travel guidebook “Puerto Rico Adventures Revealed.”

Resources

SellMyTimeshareNOW  is one of the oldest online timeshare booking services, and features incredibly low prices on upscale resort stays. Each suite and villa they offer is put up for rent by their clients, instead of direct from the resort. This results in the ability to stay at a popular brand like Marriott, Sheraton, Hyatt, etc. for the price of a lower end hotel. Timeshares offer huge open-air balconies, living rooms, kitchens, and deluxe furnishings. The Puerto Rico properties you’ll be able to find are surrounded by lush, tropical forests and are typically located right on the beach.

Airbnb is a growing and popular sight that is offering travelers the biggest directory of homes, apartments, condos and other unusual accommodations for great prices. The quality is typically surprisingly good and most times cheaper than the local hotels you can find. *REFERRAL LINK BONUS* If you sign up through this link you’ll get a credit on your first day!

HostelWorld is a great resource as well to find cheaper accommodations that can sometimes surprise you with the quality you can find and save a few dollars or so at the same time. They feature hostels, but you can also find bed and breakfasts, guesthouses, and unique boutique hotels. These are some of the best and least expensive places you can look for on he web.

Trip Advisor is our favorite referral method because of the extensive reviews by other travelers that give you the true story of the places if you really search for them. Puerto Rico Adventures Revealed has Trip Advisor Links and reviews to pretty much any hotel and restaurant and tour operator you can think of. When we don’t write our own review from experience, we simply link you to Trip Advisor. If you book your hotel via Trip Advisor, we get a super small and tiny commission so if you feel we are helping you research your Puerto Rico trip please feel free to link through our links! Gracias!

METRO AREA:  OLD SAN JUAN

*Note:  In depth personal reviews of all hotels/paradores in final version of travel guide book!

Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel & Casino holds a special place in my heart as it was the first place I stayed at when moving to Puerto Rico. The hotel is perfectly centrally located for your adventures around Old San Juan on Day 5. Nice rooms, with good views with decent prices.  Trip Advisor Reviews Link

METRO AREA: CONDADO

La Concha is in the center of things (Old San Juan, Condado, Metro Area etc), you can’t go wrong staying at La Concha. It’s picturesque. The pools and bars are great. The modern rooms have great views of the ocean. The only cons? Paying for the good times at this world class resort is expensive – but worth it.  Trip Advisor Reviews Link

The Water Beach Club Hotel (now known as the WBC Hotel) is a very Miami Beach Ocean Drive’esque hotel and trendy. It’s off the beaten path from the chain hotels, yet boasts its own identity. You can’t miss the top floor bar that overlooks all of Isla Verde (stunning at night) with an infinity pool at the top. One of our favorite hotels. Trip Advisor Reviews Link

*El San Juan Resort & Casino: See our nightlife section for more on this place. One of Puerto Rico’s most elegant and well known hotels. Movie stars consistently stay here as it’s the place to be. Trip Advisor Reviews Link

The Embassy Suites Hotel in Dorado is our top pick simply because we see it all the time in Dorado. We’ve never stayed at any of these hotels we’re linking to, but we’d recommend this spot because it’s located in a great town with great dining options nearby. Trip Advisor Reviews Link

 EAST SHORE

Fajardo Inn Resort –  After your exhausting Day 1 Adventure, you want to get off the ferry and drive as close as you can to take your shower and rest for the night. Fajardo Inn Resort is reasonably priced and perfect to end your first night here.  Trip Advisor Reviews Link

*Gran Melia Golf Resort: The Gran Melia is a beautiful destination hotel. While the beach is not the best, the facilities, rooms, and exotic golf course, and pools make for a great place to relax. Again, not the best place to stay for the purposes of this First Day Adventure in Puerto Rico – but it is near El Yunque if you want to end your day early and relax in this area. Trip Advisor Reviews Link

*The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort: Another beautiful hotel with ocean views and dazzling pools to relax in. Another place to stay here for more than one night – so not recommended as well for the purposes of your adventure trip. Trip Advisor Reviews Link

*El Conquistador Resort, A Waldorf Astoria Resort: By far one of the most famous hotels in all of Puerto Rico. El Conquistador is a beautiful hotel situated off a stunning cliff in Fajardo overlooking amazing scenery. This hotel also boasts a “water park”, so if you have a family this is a great place to stay. Keep in mind on this adventure the object is to not stay at a place too long, but if you wanted to this is a great choice.  Trip Advisor Reviews Link

*Las Casitas Village, A Waldorf Astoria Resort: Another beautiful and exotic hotel. More in line if you want to stay longer than one night. Trip Advisor Reviews Link

 WEST SHORE

Bahia Salinas Beach Resort & Spa. Again, we’re making this our top pick recommendation simply because of logistics after your Day 2. Regardless, this resort is a great place to spend the night (bar & restaurant as well). It’s reasonably priced considering the location. Wake up in the morning in paradise – enjoy the most you can, then head back on the road! Trip Advisor Reviews Link

The Horned Dorest Primavera If you happen to be coming to Puerto Rico and are taking this 5 Day Adventure to heart and it happens to be your honeymoon – this is one of the most romantic hotels in the whole island. OFFSHORE ISLANDS – CULEBRA & VIEQUES

 Culebra

*Villa Boheme in Culebra is by far our favorite getaway spot when going to the offshore island of Culebra.  It’s Culebra’s best kept secret, with perfect quaint rooms with a view of the sea.  The customer service is excellent, there are plenty of hammocks to relax in, rooms with small kitchens, centrally located (right next to Dinghy Dock!).  You can easily walk right from the ferry here, and also pick up your rental car.  Really, what more do you want?  The picture at the top of this page’s section is Villa Boheme.  Shhhh if you’re actually reading this.  Don’t tell anyone.
